Day 1  :  Machame gate hiking up to machame camp


It’s about an hour's drive from Moshi town. The journey to the gate sets the stage for the incredible experience ahead. After registration, you'll enter the Kilimanjaro rainforest, where a stunning hike awaits you. The lush greenery and diverse flora will captivate your senses as you make your way through this magical landscape. You'll hike for 5 to 6 hours, covering approximately 11km and eventually reach Machame campsite 3,020m. Nestled near the top of the rainforest section, the campsite offers a picturesque setting surrounded by the beauty of the montane forest habitat.

    Day 2  :  Hiking machame camp to shira cave


    Where you'll enjoy a hearty breakfast before continuing your ascent. The day's hike involves hiking for about an hour through the remaining section of the Kilimanjaro rainforest. From there, you'll enter the moorland zone, hiking for approximately 2 hours at a more moderate incline. The scenery changes as you transition into the moorland habitat, offering a unique and captivating landscape. After a short lunch break and rest, you'll continue your ascent along a steep rocky ridge, eventually reaching the vast Shira plateau. The day's hike covers about 5.3km and takes around 5 to 6 hours, ending at Shira Cave campsite (3,750m. The campsite rewards you with breathtaking views of the moorland habitat

    Day 3  :  Shira cave, lava tower hiking up to barranco


    The hike takes approximately 4 to 5 hours, covering a distance of around 7 km (4.3 miles). As you ascend, the landscape transforms into a semi-desert with rocky terrains offering a unique beauty of its own. The Lava Tower serves as a vital point for acclimatization, where you'll have lunch and experience the benefits of hiking high and sleeping at a lower altitude. Afterward, you'll descend to the Barranco campsite at 3,900m (12,795ft), which takes about 2 to 3 hours and covers a distance of approximately 3.3 km (2 miles) through the semi-desert habitat

    Day 4  :  Hiking from Barranco to karanga to Barafu campsite


    The distance covered is approximately 10km (6.2 miles) through the alpine desert habitat. After a wholesome breakfast, you'll ascend the Barranco Wall, which may sound intimidating but is often easier than anticipated. The hike continues until you reach Karanga camp, where you'll pause for lunch and a well-deserved rest. From there, the hike continues with a 640m ascent to the Barafu campsite. As the name suggests, this campsite is exposed to strong winds, so resting early, around 19:00, is recommended to prepare for the final ascent to the summit, which begins later that night

    Day 5  :  Hiking Barafu to summit up to mweka camp


    Starting from Barafu campsite the goal is to reach Uhuru Peak at 5,895m. This challenging hike takes approximately 7 to 8 hours. The day begins in the wee hours around 23:20, where hikers wake up to have tea and biscuits before embarking on a north-westerly ascent towards Stella Point, situated on the crater rim. This 6-hour journey to Stella Point is often mentally and physically demanding, testing the resolve and determination of hikers.Upon reaching Stella Point at 5,756m, it takes around 2 more hours to reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. During this final stretch, you may encounter snow as you tread closer to the summit.Reaching Uhuru Peak, hikers rejoice in their accomplishment, basking in the surreal experience of standing on the "Roof of Africa." After a well-deserved yet brief rest at Barafu campsite, the descent begins towards Mwekacampsite at 3,100m this descent takes about 3 hours

    The hiking time is approximately 3 to 4 hours from Mweka campsite. The distance covered is around 10km / 6.2 miles from Mweka campsite. This part of the hike takes you through a predominantly forested habitat, offering a serene and soothing environment as you descend. Upon reaching the Mweka Gate, hikers will sign their names and provide their details in a register. Successful hikers will also receive their summit certificates, commemorating their extraordinary achievement.
